Remake Patek Philippe 6119R: Where to Find This Calatrava in Specialty Stores

Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I gotta say, the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001 is one that always caught my eye. It’s just so…clean. That classic, timeless look, you know? So I thought, “Why not try to remake one myself?” Yeah, I know, it sounds crazy, but I was bored and needed a project.

First, I spent days just staring at pictures of this thing online. I mean, really staring, trying to get every little detail in my head. This Patek 6119R-001, it’s big, it’s 39mm, and that rose gold case…man. It’s not just the size, though. It’s the way it sits, the way it shines… 8.08mm thick, that’s what I read. Not too chunky, not too thin. Just right.

Then came the fun part – trying to find parts that looked even remotely similar. I scoured the internet, checked out all those online watch forums. You wouldn’t believe the stuff you find out there. People are obsessed with these things! Anyway, I managed to find a decent-looking case, although getting that rose gold look was tough. The original is polished, like, really polished. Had to do a lot of buffing to get mine even close.

  • Finding a movement was a whole other headache. The real Calatrava 6119R-001 has this fancy new movement, the caliber 30-255 PS, and let me tell you, getting your hands on one of those is nearly impossible. Plus, I’m not made of money! So, I settled for a simpler one, but one that still looked okay through the sapphire crystal case back I also managed to find. Yeah, I wanted that see-through back. It’s just cool to see all the little gears moving.
  • The dial…oh boy, the dial. The original has this “Clous de Paris” hobnail pattern. It’s this textured thing, super fine. I tried a few different techniques to replicate it, but let’s just say it didn’t exactly go as planned. I ended up with something that looks…okay. Not perfect, but it gives it a bit of that textured look.
  • The hands were another challenge. I found some that were kinda similar in shape, but the size…it’s hard to get it just right. They’re a little off, but you’d have to really know what you’re looking for to notice.

Putting it all together was like, the most stressful puzzle ever. Tiny screws, delicate parts…I swear I almost lost my mind a couple of times. But after a lot of trial and error, a few choice curse words, and maybe a little bit of superglue (don’t tell anyone), I finally got it assembled.

And you know what? It actually looked pretty good! I mean, it’s not a real Patek Philippe, obviously. But it’s got that same vibe, that same classic feel. I even took it to a few watch shops, and the guys there were pretty impressed. They could tell it wasn’t the real deal, of course, but they appreciated the effort. They said that Patek Philippe Calatrava is good, and also 6119R-001. I think they were just being nice, though.

It’s My Treasure

So, yeah, that’s my story of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. It was a fun project, a real learning experience. Would I do it again? Probably not. It was a lot of work! But I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s a nice little piece to add to my collection, and it’s a good conversation starter. Plus, it’s a reminder that sometimes, it’s fun to just get your hands dirty and try something new, even if it’s a little crazy. And, hey, it’s way cheaper than a real one. That’s for sure.
