Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this whole bag-making thing lately, and let me tell you, it’s a wild ride. Today, I decided to tackle the “Remake PRADA Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag.” Sounds fancy, right? Well, it kinda is, but also, it’s just a bag.
Starting with Nothing
First off, I didn’t have a clue where to begin. I mean, I’ve seen these bags around, and they look so darn sophisticated. But how do you even start to make one? I spent a good chunk of my morning just staring at pictures online. Yeah, that’s right, just looking at pictures. The iconic Prada Galleria, as they called it, seemed like such a big deal, so I was nervous.
Gathering Stuff
Next up, I needed to gather my materials. I didn’t even know what “Saffiano” leather was. It is a textured leather, which I learned from a few posts online. Turns out, it’s this special kind of textured leather that feels pretty sturdy. I managed to find something similar at a local shop – score! I also grabbed some lining material, thread, and a bunch of other stuff that I hoped would be useful. Did I forget anything? Probably. But hey, that’s part of the fun, right?
Cutting and Sewing
Now, let’s talk about the actual making part. This was the real deal. I started by cutting the leather. Man, that was nerve-wracking! One wrong cut and boom, there goes your fancy bag. I followed some basic patterns I found in my old sewing books, but honestly, I was mostly winging it. I began sewing the pieces together, my sewing machine humming along. It started to look like a bag, but a very, very wonky one.
- Cut the leather (carefully!)
- Sew the main pieces
- Add the lining (which was trickier than I thought)
- Sew some more
Details, Details
Then came the details. This bag has these metal bits and a logo thing that I definitely couldn’t make myself. So, I did what any sensible person would do – I improvised. I found some old metal pieces from another bag and tried to make them work. It was a total MacGyver situation, but you know what? It kinda worked. The logo was a whole other issue. I ended up just leaving it out. Who needs a logo anyway? This bag is about the experience, not the brand, you know?
Almost There
After hours of work, I was finally getting somewhere. I added the handles, which was a whole process in itself. I had to make sure they were super strong because nobody wants their bag handles snapping off in the middle of the street. Been there, done that, not fun.
The Final Product
And there it was. My very own “Remade” PRADA Galleria bag. Did it look like the real deal? Nope. Not even close. But was it functional? Absolutely! It held my stuff, it looked somewhat like a bag, and I made it. That’s a win in my book. And it looks pretty good, even if I say so myself. It looks classic. Some people mentioned that Prada and Fendi hold value, so I guess this can be a good bag for my closet.
So, that’s my story of remaking a fancy bag. It was a mess, it was fun, and I learned a ton. Would I do it again? Probably. But maybe next time, I’ll start with something a bit simpler. Or not. Who knows? That’s the beauty of making stuff – you never know where it’ll take you.
