Okay, here is my sharing about remaking the Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, from start to finish:
So, I got this thing for remaking bags, right? And I’ve been eyeing those fancy Prada ones for a while. You know the ones, they call them “Prada look alike bags” or “Fake Prada bag”. I saw this one, a big one, called the “Large Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag.” Heard about it from someone who said they saw them at some special stores. Sounded fancy, with that “Saffiano” leather.
I figured, why not try to remake one? I mean, I’ve done a few bags before, nothing like a Prada, but hey, gotta start somewhere. So, first, I had to get a good look at this bag. Looked it up on the internet, all those shiny pictures. This Prada Galleria, it’s big enough for all your stuff. It really looked good in the pictures, and big. You could fit your knitting in there, maybe a little snack, your wallet. So I started sketching, trying to get all the details right. It’s got these handles, see, and a little triangle thing with the Prada name. That triangle was a pain, let me tell you. Took me a few tries to get it looking decent.
Then, the leather. I went down to that leather shop downtown, you know the one. Asked the guy there for Saffiano, and he showed me some, but it just didn’t look like the pictures. So, I tried a few different kinds, trying to find something that had that same… I don’t know, that same look. Ended up with a piece that was close enough. It wasn’t perfect, but it would do.
Cutting the leather, that was the next big step. Measured it out, real careful-like. Didn’t want to mess it up, that leather’s not cheap! Then came the sewing. I’ve got this old sewing machine, belonged to my grandma. It still works, though. I sewed those pieces together, slow and steady. Had to redo a couple of seams, they were a little crooked at first.
- Get the shape right: That was tough. It’s not just a square, you know? It’s got these curves and angles.
- The handles: I made them out of the same leather, stuffed them with some padding to make them round.
- That little triangle: I cut it out of metal, painted it, and glued it on. Not as fancy as the real thing, but it looked okay.
- The inside: I used some soft cloth for the lining. Made a few pockets, too, for phone and keys and such.
Finally, after many days of work, it was done. It wasn’t a perfect copy, not by a long shot. But it looked like a bag. It looked like that Prada bag, a little bit. I even carried it around for a few days, just to see how it felt. Felt good, actually. Sturdy. Like it could hold all my stuff.
This Prada Large Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, they say this fella, Mario Prada, started the whole thing. Mine’s not a real Prada, of course. But I made it, and that’s something. Maybe I’ll try another one someday, maybe a smaller one. We’ll see. But for now, I’m pretty happy with my “Prada look alike.” It was a lot of work, but I learned a lot, too. This remake, it’s a good one, in its own way.
