So, I got this idea to remake a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, I know, it’s a fancy watch. I saw it once at a shop, and man, it looked good. But the price? Way too much for me. I figured, why not try making one myself? It seemed like a fun challenge.

First thing I did was look up everything I could about this 6119R-001. Pictures, videos, articles, you name it. I wanted to know every little detail. I spent hours just studying the watch. Then, I started gathering materials. This wasn’t easy. I needed to find stuff that looked like the real deal but didn’t cost a fortune. I went to a bunch of different stores, looking for the right kind of metal, some decent leather for the strap, and a good movement that wouldn’t break the bank.

Once I had all the materials, I started working on it. I started with the case. I tried to shape the metal to look like the real Calatrava. It took a lot of tries, let me tell you. I messed up a few times, but I didn’t give up. I kept at it until it started to look right.

  • Working on the case: This was tough. Shaping the metal just right took a lot of patience and a few do-overs.
  • Finding the right movement: I didn’t want to spend too much, but I also wanted something reliable. I think I found a good balance.
  • Crafting the dial: I used simple tools to make it. It’s not perfect, but it looks pretty good, I think.
  • Assembling everything: Putting it all together was like solving a puzzle. Every piece had to fit just right.

Next up was the dial. I wanted it to look like the original, with those fancy hour markers and hands. I found some materials that looked similar and got to work. This part was tricky too. I had to be really careful not to mess up the small details. It took a while, but I managed to make a dial that looked pretty close to the real thing. Although, in some places it was not quite the same, after all, my skills are limited. But overall, it can be considered as successful.

The hands were another challenge. I needed to find something that looked like the original hands, but again, without spending too much money. After some searching, I found some hands that were close enough. I attached them to the movement, and it started to look like a real watch.

Putting It All Together

Putting everything together was the final step. I carefully assembled all the parts, making sure everything fit perfectly. It was like putting together a puzzle. When I was done, I wound it up, and it started ticking. I couldn’t believe it. I actually made a working watch that looked like a Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001!

It’s not perfect, of course. There are some differences from the original. But I’m really proud of it. It was a lot of work, but it was worth it. I learned a lot during this project, and I had a lot of fun. Plus, now I have a cool watch that looks like a fancy Patek Philippe, but it didn’t cost me a fortune. I’m not a professional watchmaker or anything like that, but I think I did a pretty good job. It’s not going to fool anyone up close, but from a distance, it looks pretty legit. Maybe I’ll try remaking another watch someday. It’s a fun hobby, and it’s really satisfying to see the finished product.
