Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this Remake PRADA Small Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag from the official flagship store for a while now. You know, the one they call a “neo-classic”? I finally took the plunge and decided to make it myself.
Deciding to Start
First off, I started by looking up what makes this bag so special. Turns out, it’s been around since 2007, and they keep updating it. They call it the Galleria, after the location of Prada’s first store. And get this, it’s not fake leather, it’s real calfskin, but they treat it to make it tougher and water-resistant. I watched some stuff online about it, and I just got hooked.
Gathering My Tools
- Leather: I went to a local craft store, and let me tell you, finding the right leather was a trip. I needed something that felt like the real deal – you know, that Saffiano cross-hatch pattern. It was kinda expensive, but hey, I’m saving a ton by not buying the real thing, right?
- Tools: Got myself a basic leatherworking kit. Nothing fancy, just some needles, a cutter, and some of that special thread they use.
- Pattern: This was tricky. I ended up sketching it out myself, using the pictures from the Prada site as a guide. Measured it out like five times, just to be sure.
The Making
Cutting the leather was nerve-wracking! I used my new cutter and followed the lines I drew. I messed up a little, not gonna lie, but I managed to salvage it.
Then came the sewing. I started with the smaller parts. Stitching by hand takes forever, but it’s kind of relaxing, like a puzzle.
The big moment was putting it all together. I felt like a real craftsman, haha! Lining it up, sewing the sides, attaching the handles – it was all coming together.
The Final Product
And, boom! There it was. My very own Galleria bag. It’s not perfect, sure. There are a few wonky stitches, and the edges aren’t as clean as the original. But you know what? I made it. It’s unique, it’s mine, and I’m super proud of it. Plus, I learned a whole new skill. Who knows, maybe I’ll start making bags for my friends. Or maybe not, this took way longer than I thought, haha!
So yeah, that’s my story of remaking a designer bag. It was a fun ride, and I’d totally recommend giving it a shot if you’re into this kind of thing. Just be prepared to spend some time and maybe a little extra cash on good materials. Trust me, it’s worth it in the end.
