Alright, folks, gather ’round! Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure of remaking the famous Yves Saint Laurent YSL LE CARRé SATCHEL BAG. Yeah, that super stylish bag you’ve probably seen around, looking all fancy and whatnot.
So, first things first, I started by looking at a bunch of pictures of this bag online. I mean, a whole lot of them! I zoomed in, checked out every little detail – the stitching, the hardware, that little YSL logo, everything. This bag, it’s kinda square, like a box, and pretty structured. I needed to get a good feel for its shape and size.
Then, I grabbed some cardboard and started sketching. Drew out the front, the back, the sides, trying to get the dimensions right. It was a bit of trial and error, you know? Erase, redraw, erase, redraw. Once I was happy with the basic shape, I cut out the pieces and taped them together. It looked a bit rough, but hey, it was starting to resemble that YSL bag!
Choosing the Material
Next up, the material. This was a toughie. I wanted something that looked and felt luxurious, just like the real deal. I hit up a few fabric stores, feeling up different leathers and faux leathers. Asked the store assistants a million questions, compared textures, and finally settled on this beautiful, smooth, black leather. It wasn’t cheap, but it was worth it.
With the material sorted, I traced my cardboard pieces onto the leather and cut them out. This part was nerve-wracking! One wrong snip and I’d have to start all over again. But I took my time, double-checked everything, and managed to cut out all the pieces perfectly.
Putting it All Together
Now came the fun part – sewing! I dusted off my old sewing machine, threaded it up, and got to work. Stitched the sides to the front and back, added the bottom, and slowly but surely, the bag started to take shape. It was like magic, seeing those flat pieces of leather transform into a three-dimensional bag.
Of course, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were times when the needle got stuck, or the thread snapped, or I sewed something on backward. But I didn’t give up. I unpicked the stitches, corrected my mistakes, and kept on going.
The final touch was the hardware. I found these gold-colored clasps and rings online that looked almost identical to the ones on the real YSL bag. Attached them to the bag, and voila! It was done!
Looking at the finished product, I was pretty darn proud of myself. It wasn’t an exact replica, but it was close enough. And the best part? I made it with my own two hands! It’s not just a bag, it’s a testament to my perseverance and creativity. Now I can strut around, rocking my handmade “YSL” bag, and feeling like a million bucks!
This whole process, it was quite the learning experience. From sketching to cutting to sewing, each step taught me something new. And who knows, maybe I’ll tackle another designer bag remake in the future. Stay tuned, folks!
